Kosovo is the country with the youngest population in Europe. More than 70 percent of its people are under the age of 35, it has the demographic make-up that every country dreams of. Through the Stabilization and Association Agreement, Kosovo offers free access to the EU market, and low labor costs in comparison to Central and Eastern Europe, but also compared with neighboring countries, owing to a young population.

 

Kosovo has the highest concentration of German speakers in the world, after the DACH countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

 

The high level of language skills among the workforce of Kosovo is one of the country’s major competitive advantages over its regional competitors. 28.2% of the population speaks one foreign language and 15.9% more than one foreign language.

 

Based on (National Forest Inventory 2012/13), the forest area in Kosovo comprises of 481 thousand ha (44.7% of total area) and it may be deemed as good resource for the economy of Kosovo and according to some analyses from different international donors, the wood subsector in Kosovo has a great economic development potential.

 

The subsector of “Manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork” has 1,429 employees in 408 enterprises and annual turnover of 44.50 million euros.

 

In 2019, employment in this subsector recorded an increase of 2.77% and a turnover of 17.36%, while the number of enterprises declined for 10.53%.

 

Exports in the sub-sector of “Manufacture of wood and wood products and cork”, in 2019, has increased by 41.94%, compared to the previous year, while in 2018 there was an increase of only 1%, compared to 2017.

 

Of the total number of enterprises of Sector-C, under the sector “Manufacture of wood and wood products and cork” there is 1.74% exporting enterprises, while within this sub-sector, out of 408 enterprises, 19.36% are exporters.
